Mission: To carry out the research aspect of the mandate of the Viking Foundation

  1. Creating a sustainable multi-disciplinary and collaborative model for integrative health (IH) service.

  2. Undertake in-house research and to provide funding to support evidence-based research on integrative health practice.

  3. Providing training opportunities for selected students in Canada and from abroad.

  4. Offering patient-centered health service using established model of integrative health, advice to community; providing education focusing on healthy eating, living and aging.

Objectives

1. Conduct in-house research.

2.  Research in collaboration with academic, commercial and non-profit organizations

3. Administer grant or funding to support research in other institutions.

 

Scope of Research: 

1. Develop sustainable models of IH research and practice

  • Establish data base on: current status of CM Therapy, IH practice, inter-professionalism & communication

  • Study design on IH practice. Bottom up approach. Sustainable business model

  • EMK Lui: current morbidity study on primary health care in Ontario (link)

    • Current status: formation of a Ontario consortium

    • Negotiation has begun with:

             1. TCM program at Humber College (Associate Dean),

             2. Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Dr K Cooley),

             3. Canadian College of Chiropractic Medicine (Dr Batte).                              

  • Survey of TCM practitioners in London and in Ontario re scope of practice to assess their suitability for participating in this study.

  • Meeting with Dr. Wong of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (HK) in HK to discuss study design and recruitment  strategy

2. Evidence-based IH practice

  • Paradigm of evidence pertaining to Complementary Therapy and Integrative Health, N of 1 study

3. Special case.

  • East meets West. Challenges and solutions. Opportunity for International collaboration.
